FESTAC 2077: Write, if you please

Through sonic and visual fragments of the ongoing FESTAC 2077 workshop exercise, Write, if you please invites the audience to imagine, enact, and recreate FESTAC 2077 manifestos, ultimately exploring the fluidity of authorship.

How does one proceed when the goal is not completion, but rather, continuance? Write, if you please experiments with the logic of codices and ancient methods of writing and knowledge keeping. The installation contemplates ancient practices whereby codices were severed, with the expectation that a future event would bring the pieces of writing back together.

In consideration of the translocality of pan-Africanism, Write, if you please holds the ongoing FESTAC 2077 manifesto exercise and breaks the collaborative composition into fragments, which aspire to be brought together through various actors and actions. In this sense, rather than merely attempt to enact a public by virtue of its declaration, the 2077 manifesto actively creates its public.

This exhibition is presented in partnership with AWCA and made possible by the Goethe Institut Nigeria’s Support + Connect Initiative.
